The Good Governance Group sprang from the ashes of the Xinyi glass factory debacle. It was clear to those who had been part of that fight, both within Wise Communities and Get Concerned Stratford, that a reform of how business was conducted in this city was needed. After several meetings, the Good Governance Group was formed, and over several months created a charter and a plan to help elect a new council this fall. The group hopes that new councillors from wide and diverse backgrounds and interests, committed to acting openly, with significant increases in public consultation and feedback, can help to reform Stratford processes and eliminate the secrecy and defensiveness so prevalent now. You can learn more about how our group plans to proceed by reading our Charter.

Good Governance has grown since our first meeting in May 2022, but we are still looking for volunteers to help us build our organization. If you would like to lend a hand, please contact us through the form at the bottom of this page.

How does 3G honour its commitment to openness, transparency, accountability, and responsibility to the public?

  • Ensure equal opportunity to vote for everybody, including renters
  • Public consultation comes first and informs council decision making rather than following it
  • Reduce and, where possible, eliminate in-camera decision making and the use of nondisclosure agreements
  • Disclose pressure that interest groups outside the community may bring the bear on us
  • Use plain English in meetings to describe issues/procedures council is dealing with
  • Pay people the respect of responding to them when they make submissions to us
  • Set up mechanisms, like Townhall meetings and a public website, that informs citizens in good time of important issues the city has to deal with
  • Ensure that city staff acts in concert with the wishes of the public, not in opposition to them
  • The Chair, Mike Sullivan, has registered as a third party advertiser for the purposes of the 2022 election.
